### Acknowledgements
It is weird, to _acknowledge_. If truly acknowledging whatever influences led to this moment, one should acknowledge the entirety of everything. Which I hereby do.
Thanking is another thing. And while some specific people and groups were much closer to me than others, it is weird, in any case, to thank _some_ and not others. Así que: un saludo para todes les que me conocen. I thank everyone for the love received. All broken symmetries that led to more good stuff instead of less.
The necessary and cliché, but truthful romantic dedication: nothing better ever happened to me than the part of my life spent with Keimpe. And he actually—literally—saved my life several times during the writing of this dissertation. I dedicate all the love in this work to his love.^[I hope you read this, because ten minutes ago I told you “I am having an existential crisis writing these acknowledgments, it’s the most difficult part of the entire process” to which you said: “does anybody even read those?”]
Many different forces pushed this work to its completion. Since the logic of the propositions that are supposed to be presented alongside the thesis is that some are directly related to and emerging from it, and some hold a more indirect relationship with it, I follow that logic and below I first list the groups and persons that directly—and chronologically recently—contributed to the making of this work. Thereafter I list, in no particular order, an incomplete list of recent and much less recent supportive entities that had an edifying, helpful, friendly and healthy influence on the pig-headed drive of my inquisitions.
To the entities which (historically) contribute(d) to the all infrastructures this enjoyed and depended on: I wish I could thank you directly. I like to believe that pursuing these things is the result of your influence, and my way of thanking you and passing it on. To all those who make an effort to leave things better than they found them: alto abrazo, que siga siguiendo.
Martina Raponi and Ties van Gemert. Cannot imagine better companions through this process.^[Well, maybe if you were permanently dressed like the Mario Bros. Or could spit fire. Or had a magic carpet or teleportation machine I could sometimes borrow.] Martina: I tried to write you the best dedication, many times over. Failing. Some versions of this dedication had the word cazzo in them, and even duro. You are too dynamic, forceful and eternally joyful for words. A great friend and colleague and punster in crime. I can’t. Ties: you are an incredibly curious human being and incredibly good at being a curious human. The cahoots we’ve been in and those we’ve organized were great moments of true, communal synchronization. Same for Martina, for different cahoots. Ozarba zozzone to both.
Noise Research Union (Cécile Malaspina, Inigo Wilkins, Martina Raponi, Mattin, Miguel Prado, and as of recent: Patricia Reed): years and years and years of your intellectual influence *are* this work, basically. I especially blame Inigo, we’ve known each other for quite long now, and you’ve always inspired me.
Desire and Capital (Ryan, Jamie, David): allow me to call us bunch of jolly meat-puppets. Working together on a path following Marx and tacos was a transformative experience which showed me that, while Marx largely remains a bro-endeavor, there are some great bros out there. David: you are not only a great philosophy sparring partner, but can throw a mean hook, too.
Karoline Świeżyński: master designer and incredible person whom I admired—with fear, even—since we first met at the Rietveld. In having to turn what was originally supposed to be a nonlinear website into a 1-liner, I produced the most discombobulate MS Word document. Karo gracefully rolled it in glitter, to say the least. Thank you so much for all the help, the keen eye, the kindness, the patience.
Bas Schmitz and Paul Bas. The one and only actual artist.
We could never settle on a name, but our research group with Yağmur Denizhan, Alicia Juarrero, Muindi F. Muindi, Cécile and Xin Wei Sha: your work in general, as well as your sharp feedback on presentations of early papers and ideas, have been invaluable.
Obviously: my family. My brother Theo, my brother Juan, my father Jan. My mother, too, this is also in her memory. More recent family: Margje, Wybe, you not only produced Keimpe but also have given me so much support. Geeske, too.
ESPhil, WdKA and DAE students: learning together has been the most rewarding experience of this entire trajectory. ESPhil colleagues (and colleagues at other places in EUR): a truly heartfelt gesture of gratitude for all the conversations, all the weird moments, all the added value that comes from considering each other, connecting and trying to interpret, interfere with and positively challenge each other. Of course, my supervisors: S. van Tuinen and H. Zwart. And of course: the wonderful people who run ESPhil: thank you for steering this ship of Theseus (and of, at least, one fool). K. Kuipers, M. van der Gaag, J. Kloeg, V. Blok: though not towards the thesis, your collegial support throughout 2025 has been deeply encouraging. WdKA colleagues: a lot of loving bonding through many difficult times. HP context: I could write pages and pages about Sami Hammana, you are a most esteemed cholo in my life. Ioana, you are a master of puppets in disguise, and your powers are strong. Clara Balaguer: special, special, special mention.
The following list could and should be much longer, and was semi-randomized so as to be presented in no apparent order: Yue. N. Metoui. P. Planta. Glass Bead. Laurent: cosmic crunch. A. Radman and S. Kousoulas. J. Clavel. S. Dobson. Senka and Maja. M. Albarracin. Slow reading group (initiated by R. Turner). v2_: Sieta, Boris. Ivar and PJ. PAF. N. Lekkerkerk. C. Manz.
