I am guilty of this. Much of philosophy, psychoanalysis and literary work is guilty of this (to name but a few excessgetical areas). Of course, we can consider _everything_ as excessgetic, but that would be excessive. It is characterized by verbose exposure of ‘hidden’ or ‘forgotten’ details, ulterior motives, meanings, symbolisms, etc., and ascribing a deep, complex significance or logic to phenomena that do not possess it. While useful (as is all speculation), and often needed (how else are we to seek novelty?), this practice can also often result in convoluted, exploded, reductive or otherwise wrong (dream) interpretations.
