I was invited by Mario Negrello to teach the philosophy component of this wonderful minor, and I gladly accepted. The following information is the outward-facing student summary of the 2026-27 minor:
The NeuroAI minor is an **educational experience** for bachelor’s students from varied backgrounds. Students follow **a guided autodidactic approach** to acquire knowledge and develop confidence in neuroscience and computational modelling of the brain. The minor has a **strong focus on collaborative knowledge discovery** and the foundations of modern approaches in NeuroAI. Designed with transdisciplinarity in mind, it is open to students from virtually any bachelor’s programme who are interested in how the brain computes. The minor is organized around workshops and activities that combine theory, code, models, experimental science and philosophy.
The program runs in **two parts**, each worth **15 EC**:
**Part 1 – Foundations of NeuroAI** introduces neural computation, modelling, and the conceptual roots of AI–brain analogies. In project-based learning (PBL) settings, student groups learn to simulate neurons and networks, interpret computational models, and create a multimedia [explainer](https://canvas.eur.nl/courses/54589/pages/what-are-explainers) on a chosen topic in NeuroAI.
**Part 2 – Advanced NeuroAI & Reproduction** focuses on open science and reproducibility. Students work in transdisciplinary groups to acquire the skills needed to reproduce or extend an existing NeuroAI study, analyse real data, and present their findings at a final symposium.
