# The subject(s) of echo stripped naked by their premises, even.
This anechoic chamber workshop is part of the TUDelft16th _Deleuze & Guattari Camp and Conference_ 2024: Intelligence, Instituting and Archiving.
### Abstract:
Language—the intelligent, self-mimetic, archival institution of it all—is an endless stream of echoes. But it changes. Concepts emerge, others decay. These self-differentiating modulations and adaptations are contingently given by the materio-socio-techno-environments that—literally and figuratively—ground language. Degrees of dimensional freedom and the capacity to move invite directionality, pointing, perhaps the very first linguistic “opening act” (whether this be a sugar gradient or a finger). The landscape and the skies afford all manners of interpretation: constellations, horizons, foundations. Objects, processes and materials give rise to metaphors. The seasons envelop the bodies of creatures that curse the elements. An echo returns altered, alien. All these ambient conditions have evolved language into a highly complex dynamical system which has reached vast self-referential depths. Humorously inspired by current trends in sensory deprivation, this experiment aims at sensory augmentation in the highly constructed niche, or rather anti-niche, that is the anechoic chamber.^[For unnamed, uninstructed, universal Wheeler ref. see: ![[diagram in complexity book Zurek 1990, page xiv.png]]]
>“Deleuze conferences have sometimes been accused of being echo chambers, so we’ve finally addressed that.” D. van Putten
### Set-up:
In order _reflect_ on the reflection above we will:
- Enter an anechoic chamber;
- Listen to a recorded sound;
- Read a script (each participant will receive a script specifically tailored for their interests);
- If desired: produce a new concept, based on this experience.

# 16th Deleuze & Guattari Camp and Conference 2024 - Intelligence, Instituting and Archiving
### Conference Theme
The 16th International Deleuze and Guattari Studies Camp and Conference focuses on the processes of subjectification. This has been a longstanding concern of Deleuze and Guattari since their ground-breaking work, _Anti-Oedipus_ (1972), which provides a tripartite theory of the production of subjectivity. Guattari further developed a schizoanalytic approach to social formations, extending _Anti-Oedipus_’s three syntheses into a more general account of three broader ecologies that are differentially enacted by environmental, social, and mental technics. Today, these ecologies can no longer be addressed in isolation by the sciences, humanities, and arts. Fifty years since _Anti-Oedipus_, this line of transversal thinking seems more pertinent than ever for thinking through becomings and subjectivation processes in the milieus of digital media ecologies, the changing techno- and noo-spheres engendered by hyperautomation, algorithmic governance, and increasingly systemic forms of disempowerment.
Structured along the three interdependent syntheses and ecologies, the conference focuses on three socio-techno-environmental regimes of madness: Intelligence, Instituting, and Archiving. Its goal is to revisit the material-discursive ecologies of instituting and archiving practices as critical and creative endeavours that may counter systemic stupidity and engender collective intelligence. Instead of pondering the question of what intelligence is, the event will address the pragmatics of how it happens, who institutes it, and through which technologies it is archived. Starting from (post-)Deleuzo-Guattarian concepts and methods, extended through feminist, queer, and decolonial critiques, the aim is to render visible the reciprocally determinant structure and operation of these three regimes and through what methods, modes, techniques, and technologies dis/individuating becomings come to be differentially enacted.
The aim is to promote original approaches to transdisciplinarity that break with the long anti-intellectualist tradition inherent in specialisation, professionalisation, and the fragmentation of knowledge. In this spirit, the conference will also embrace other types of affective, asignifying, spatial contributions, including images/graphics/videos, sound installations, and performances.

Email to Andrej/Henry den Bok: I would like to use the TUDelft anechoic chamber (which I've previously used and was invited to do so again in the future, the guy who takes care of it is a nice guy, 8 min walk from camp location) for a series of one-on-one sessions the ones who sign up. I will also run a collective version, which will be less specifically tailored, inviting everyone into the anechoic chamber (time reserved for this is up for discussion and up to logistics of the day). This means that it would be a first sign-up-first serve, and with 45 mins I guess I'd be able to do about 5 or 6 sessions. The description is as follows (still a draft for now, I can write a longer version w/ _explicit_ D&G refs if needed):
### The subject(s) of _echo_ stripped naked by their premises, even.
Language—the intelligent, self-mimetic, archival institution of it all—is an endless stream of echos. But it changes. Concepts emerge, others decay. These self-differentiating modulations and adaptations are contingently given by the materio-socio-techno-environments that—literally and figuratively—_ground_ language. Degrees of dimensional freedom and the capacity to move invite directionality, _pointing_, perhaps the very first linguistic “opening act” (whether this be a sugar gradient or a finger). Humorously inspired by current trends in sensory deprivation, this experiment aims at sensory _augmentation_ in the highly constructed, groundless niche—or rather _anti_-niche—that is the anechoic chamber.
In order reflect on this reflection above we will:
- Enter an anechoic chamber;
- Read a script (each participant will receive a script specifically tailored for their interests) which is meanwhile recorded;
- Listen to (part of) the script again through a directional speaker;
- If desired: produce a new concept, based on this experience.
In order to participate in this 1-on-1 workshop please sign up by sending an email to ... and stating either a word, sentence, paragraph, book or x that will lead to the production of a script for your session in the chamber... something about limited timeslots, etc.
